Jack - Racehorse Relief
Thorowgood’s strapline is "Kind to Your Horse" so we are delighted to be able to spread the kindness by supporting Racehorse Relief - a charity that gives racehorses a second career.
Like many ex-racehorses that end up at a charity, Jack had passed through a number of homes before he landed in the safe hands of Racehorse Relief. When he finished racing as a four-year-old it seemed as if this lovable lad would go on to enjoy a fantastic new life. But, a few years later and through no fault of his own, Jack was discovered neglected in a field covered in lice, riddled with worms and in desperate need of a farrier, a dentist and some TLC.
Romeo learns about love
Romeo arrived at Hope Pastures as a severely malnourished and very roughly handled foal. He found it difficult to trust people and was food aggressive, always assuming that everyone was after his food (rations must have been scarce where he came from and he had obviously always had to fight to get anything to eat).
Gaddesden Place Riding for the Disabled Group
Thorowgood is all about being “Kind to Your Horse”, so we want to spread this sentiment and get involved with some deserving equine-related charities. We’ve chosen Gaddesden Place Riding for the Disabled Group - a dedicated centre that brings joy, exercise and learning to riders of all ages and disabilities.
The Story of Connie – found next to her dead mum
Imagine finding a tiny foal all alone and hungry, still trying to feed from her thin dead mother on the ground. This is the heart-wrenching scene that greeted rescuers from the Lluest Horse and Pony Trust who had received a call from a worried hill walker earlier this year.
Team GB Endurance Rider Bella Fricker talks about what influences her saddle choice and why it is so important to get a saddle fitted.
Let's talk saddles…
Gwen the Orphan Foal - Lluest
At Thorowgood we want to be ‘Kind to Your Horse’ in more than just our design. We think it’s important to show some kindness to horses and ponies who’ve had a terrible time and are in desperate need of help. The story of Gwen the orphan foal touched our heart, so we’ve decided to support Lluest Horse & Pony Trust by covering the feeding, veterinary and rehabilitation costs of this brave little filly who was found trapped in the Welsh hills.
How to care for a Thorowgood Saddle
There are many reasons a Thorowgood saddle makes an excellent choice for a first-time horse owner, so it follows that not all our Thorowgood customer will know how to look after their new purchase. Fortunately, being easy to care for is just one benefit of our popular T8 and T4 models.
The importance of using a mounting block
Courtesy of Centaur Biomechanics, this slow-mo video shows a 5'4 petite lady mounting a horse from the ground. Watching this really makes you realise the strain our horses go through in their day to day lives, and little things like mounting from a block means this amount of time they experience the pressure on their back from mounting is shortened.
As well as changeable gullet bars and girth straps, Thorowgood saddles feature two reinforced flocking slots at the front and rear, allowing for quick adjustments within the panel.
